This win allowed Sri Lanka to surpass South Africa and Pakistan, who were all tied at the 12th slot for most consecutive victories, just behind Australia, which holds the record for the most consecutive ODI wins.
The Australian cricket team’s extraordinary streak consisted of 21 straight one-day international wins, stretching from January 2003 to May 2003, including their undefeated run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 held in South Africa. Their immaculate World Cup campaign remains a challenging benchmark for any cricket team.
Sri Lanka started their remarkable streak in June 2023, opening with a win against Afghanistan, and they haven’t looked back since. Their supremacy extended to the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, where they emerged triumphant without losing a single game.
