Sri Lanka’s impressive streak in one-day International cricket remains unbroken, with their latest victory against Bangladesh in the Super Four of the Asia Cup tournament marking their 13th consecutive win in this format. Sri Lanka secured an essential 21-run victory over Bangladesh in the Asia Cup’s Super 4 phase, gaining themselves crucial two points. This win allowed Sri Lanka to surpass South Africa and Pakistan, who were all tied at the 12th slot for most consecutive victories, just behind Australia, which holds the record for the most consecutive ODI wins.

The Australian cricket team’s extraordinary streak consisted of 21 straight one-day international wins, stretching from January 2003 to May 2003, including their undefeated run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 held in South Africa. Their immaculate World Cup campaign remains a challenging benchmark for any cricket team.

Sri Lanka started their remarkable streak in June 2023, opening with a win against Afghanistan, and they haven’t looked back since. Their supremacy extended to the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, where they emerged triumphant without losing a single game. Sri Lanka has also remained unblemished in the Asia Cup, having defeated Bangladesh twice and Afghanistan once in the tournament. Their forthcoming challenge includes matches against India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

While Sri Lanka has triumphed over Afghanistan three times, Bangladesh twice, and other strong opponents such as the Netherlands, UAE, Oman, Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe, and West Indies in their last 13 ODIs, breaking Australia’s record offers a formidable challenge. Achieving such a level of consistency and dominance is no simple task in this style of game.

In their latest clash with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka batted first, setting a goal of 257 runs. Sadeera Samarwickrama played a superb innings, reaching 93 runs but almost missed out on his century. Bangladesh’s bowlers made a great comeback in the first innings, initially limiting Sri Lanka’s scoring potential. However, Maheesh Theekshana’s three-wicket burst during the middle overs finally won the victory for Sri Lanka.

Looking ahead, Sri Lanka will face India and Pakistan in their remaining super four-round matches in the Asia Cup, where they want to sustain their winning streak.
