Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, is currently recognized as one of the finest power hitters in the world of cricket. Remarkably, Rohit is poised to break a significant record for hitting sixes. He is just 15 sixes away from surpassing Chris Gayle’s record for the most international career sixes.

Chris Gayle is renowned as one of the most ferocious power hitters in the cricketing world. The former West Indian opener boasts an impressive tally of 553 international sixes, with the majority of them coming in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Rohit Sharma has openly expressed his aspiration to surpass this record held by the “Universe Boss” and claim the top spot on this prestigious list.

Currently, Rohit Sharma stands at 539 international sixes. Among these, he has launched an astounding 280 sixes in ODIs, placing him third in the rankings behind Shahid Afridi (351) and Chris Gayle (331). In the Test format, Rohit has cleared the boundary ropes 77 times during his 88 Test innings. Ben Stokes is the current leader in this category with 124 sixes.

When it comes to the shorter format of the game, Indian captain Rohit Sharma leads the charge with an impressive 182 sixes in his 140 T20I innings. In this category, Chris Gayle occupies the fourth spot with 124 sixes, while Martin Guptill secures the second position with 173, and Aaron Finch follows closely at third place with 125 sixes.

Indian captain Sharma while talking to a freelance journalist Vimal Kumar said, “I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hitting record. Never in my life, I would have imagined that I would break Chris Gayle’s record. It is funny (flexing his muscles), I am not a muscle guy but I like to hit the bowl hard. When I started playing cricket, I was told timing is important, Aerial shots were big no.”

Rohit will have the opportunity to overtake Gayle in the Asia Cup 2023 as India will be playing in the Super 4 round against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

India is preparing for the upcoming World Cup with Rohit Sharma at the helm once again. They are presently in Colombo, participating in the Asia Cup 2023. India’s next encounter is against their arch-rivals, Pakistan, slated to take place at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium this Sunday. The weather forecast forecasts rain during the game, and in a recent update, the Asian Cricket Council has opted to incorporate a reserve day for this highly anticipated cricket duel. This precaution comes after the previous game in Kandy was disturbed by rain, requiring it to be abandoned after the completion of the first innings.
