Amidst a year-long saga between the cricket boards, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Roger Binny, and the Vice-President, Rajeev Shukla, have made an intriguing move. They’re all set to journey to Pakistan as part of the Asia Cup 2023.
During the next Asia Cup 2023, an exciting move is on the horizon. The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Roger Binny, and the vice president, Rajeev Shukla, are gearing up to undertake a voyage to Pakistan. Their objective is to be present during the match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, slated for September 5th in Lahore. What makes this interesting is that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sent an invitation to the BCCI, leading to this decision to send Roger Binny and Rajeev Shukla as India’s representatives.
Interestingly, this decision follows a year-long sequence of twists and turns between the two cricket bodies. Initially, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had announced that the Indian team wouldn’t be making the trip to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. This statement caused controversy, with PCB responding by hinting at their reluctance to play in the ODI World Cup in India. After a series of meetings, the two boards have finally reached a conclusion. Pakistan has agreed to the hybrid approach for the Asia Cup and has also confirmed their participation in the World Cup.
What adds another degree of excitement to this situation is that it will represent the first instance since 2012 when BCCI officials will step foot on Pakistani land. A source close to Sportstar has stated that the two would begin their tour by going to Sri Lanka to observe the Indian side in action. Subsequently, they will cross into Pakistani territory on September 3rd.
This marks a significant occasion as BCCI officials are set to make their way to Pakistan for the first time since 2012. A reliable source connected with Sportstar has verified this update, indicating that the pair will commence their journey by heading to Sri Lanka to witness the Indian team’s matches. Subsequently, they will step into Pakistani soil on September 3rd.
“They (Binny and Shukla) will first travel to Sri Lanka to watch the Indian team in action and will then head to Pakistan, crossing the Attari border on September 3,” the source mentioned.
“The PCB had invited BCCI and as one of the key members of Asian Cricket Council and after consulting with the stakeholders, the board decided that the president and the vice-president will be traveling to the neighboring nation,” the source added.
