Michael Vaughan, the former England captain known for his bold predictions, once again grabbed attention with his latest remarks ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. After stirring up discussions with his semifinalist picks, Vaughan turned his focus to batting prowess, suggesting that teams capable of posting scores of 225 or more would hold a significant advantage in the tournament.

His selection of the West Indies, Australia, South Africa, England, New Zealand, India, and Pakistan as the top batting units further fueled anticipation for the upcoming ICC event. Vaughan’s opinions sparked lively debates on social media, with fans eagerly discussing the potential impact of these powerhouse teams on the global stage.

Michael Vaughan wrote on the microblogging site X: “Most powerful batting units are … West Indies – Australia – South Africa – England – NZ – India – Pakistan …in that order .. If it’s a WC where 175 is par all teams have a chance.…if like the IPL its 225 only 1 of the Top 4 power hitting teams will win IMO .. #ICCT20WorldCup”

The former cricketer, now serving as an expert, singled out defending champions England, the current ODI World Cup title holders Australia, the former two-time champions West Indies, and South Africa as the four teams likely to make it to the knockout stage of the prestigious tournament. Interestingly, he didn’t make any mention of India, who are the inaugural T20 World Cup champions.

“My 4 Semi finalists for the T20 WC … England,Austrlalia,South Africa and the West Indies,” Vaughan wrote on his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle.

Vaughan didn’t mention Pakistan, the 2009 T20 World Cup champions and finalists, in his last edition. But let’s be honest, Pakistan’s recent T20 performances haven’t been up to their usual standard. They just finished a five-match T20I series at home against a weakened New Zealand side and ended up drawing under Babar Azam’s captaincy.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup’s ninth edition is set to be a grand affair, featuring a whopping 20 teams. Mark your calendars because it’s scheduled to kick off on June 1st and wrap up on the 29th, with the action unfolding in both the USA and the West Indies.
