In a much-awaited showdown between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), it was KKR who emerged victorious in a convincing way, securing a seven-wicket win with an impressive 19 balls remaining.

In the 10th match of IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer, leading KKR, won the toss and chose to field first on a pitch that seemed sluggish. RCB star batter Virat Kohli showed his class once again, crafting a brilliant 83 off 59 balls, building on his stellar performance in the previous game against Punjab Kings. Cameron Green contributed with a handy 33 off 21 deliveries, and Dinesh Karthik added some crucial runs at the end with his 20 off 8 balls. Despite struggling to find their rhythm on the dry surface, RCB managed to put up a total of 182 runs in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to some gritty batting.

KKR, with Phil Salt and Sunil Narine at the helm, started their chase aggressively. Salt scored a quickfire 30 off 20 balls, while Narine smashed 47 off just 22 deliveries, propelling KKR to 86 runs in just 6.3 overs. Venkatesh Iyer joined the party with a brisk 50 off 30 balls, and skipper Shreyas Iyer sealed the deal with his composed 39 off 24 balls, guiding KKR to a comfortable 7-wicket victory. The KKR bowlers utilized the slow conditions effectively, making it difficult for RCB batsmen to time their shots, but KKR’s aggressive approach paid off as they secured their second win in as many matches.

Following Bengaluru’s disappointing performance at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, worries emerged about the strength of RCB’s bowling squad. Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, openly questioned their potential in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. With this defeat, RCB suffered their second loss, slipping down to sixth place in the points table. They’ve managed to gather just two points from three matches, despite their recent victory against Punjab.

Mohammed Siraj, Alzarri Joseph, and Yash Dayal, key players in Bengaluru’s bowling attack, faced significant challenges as they struggled with high economy rates in the recent match. Siraj, for instance, conceded 46 runs in just three overs, resulting in an alarming economy rate of 15.33. Joseph didn’t fare much better, leaking 34 runs in only two overs, equating to a staggering economy rate of 17. Even Dayal found it tough, giving away 46 runs in his full quota of four overs, resulting in an economy rate of 11.50.

Moving forward, it’ll be intriguing to observe how RCB addresses these bowling issues and stages a comeback in the ongoing tournament. Their next match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) promises to be a crucial test.
