Ishan Kishan has been away from the cricket scene since November 2023, opting out of the IND vs SA Test series, IND vs AFG T20I series, and the IND vs ENG Test series due to mental fatigue. Currently, he’s playing for the Reserve Bank of India in the DY Patil T20 Cup 2024 against Route Mobile Limited.

In the pursuit of 193 runs against Route Mobile Limited, Kishan couldn’t sustain his promising start and fell victim to Maxwell Swaminathan after scoring two fours and one six. The RBI team featured prominent names like Shahbaz Nadeem, Amit Mishra, Ankit Rajpoot, Dhruv Shorey, and Riyan Parag, and Kishan’s presence added considerable value to the team dynamics.

Today finally Ishan Kishan returned to Cricket field through DY Patil T20 Cup.

His most recent outing for India was in a T20I against Australia in November 2023. Following that, Kishan decided to step back from India’s South Africa tour, citing mental health issues, sparking discussions on the significance of mental well-being in the realm of sports.

During his hiatus from international cricket, Ishan Kishan was spotted practicing with Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya in Vadodara.

Ishan Kishan featured in India’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad but had limited appearances during the tournament. Despite a decent performance in the T20I series against Australia afterward, he opted to withdraw his name from the Test series against South Africa.

Criticism arose over Ishan’s prolonged break from cricket, especially since he wasn’t dealing with any injuries. The suggestion for him to participate in the Ranji Trophy was turned down, drawing indirect disapproval from both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Indian team captain Rohit Sharma.

Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI, criticized centrally contracted players for ignoring domestic cricket matches and also said to take required action on those players.

Jay Shah had said, “They (players) have been informed on phone already and I’m going to write letters as well that if your chairman of selectors, your coach and your captain are asking for it then you will have to play red-ball cricket.”
