In the 2nd ongoing Test match between India and England in Vizag, the young talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have been the standout performers with the bat, showcasing their dominance in the batting department.

India won the toss in Vizag and opted to bat first. The initial innings showcased a spectacular performance by Yashasvi Jaiswal, marking his debut Test double-century with an impressive 209 off 290 deliveries. Jaiswal’s innings included 19 fours and seven sixes, accounting for more than half of the team’s total. India concluded their first innings with a score of 396, and in response, England struggled against Jasprit Bumrah, who took six wickets, limiting them to just 253.

In the second innings, India faced early setbacks as the openers fell quickly. However, Shubman Gill, in collaboration with Shreyas Iyer and later Axar Patel, played a crucial role in stabilizing the Indian innings. Gill, who had been scrutinized for a lean patch in Test cricket, found redemption by smashing his third Test century in the second innings, scoring 104 off 147 deliveries with 11 fours and two sixes. These performances earned praise from Virender Sehwag, who expressed satisfaction with the emerging talent in the Indian squad.

Virender Sehwag hopped on to ‘X’ to give a shout-out to the impressive innings delivered by the young talents. He expressed his belief that these two players are set to rule the world of cricket in the coming decade. His Tweet read, “Glad to see two youngsters, both under 25 rising to the occasion and standing out. Very likely that these two will dominate world cricket for the next decade and more.”

Shubman Gill notched up his first fifty-plus score at No.3 in Tests since taking up the position in July 2023 against the West Indies. The 24-year-old batter had been opening alongside Rohit Sharma until Yashasvi Jaiswal made his debut in Dominica. Jaiswal marked his entry into Test cricket with a century against the West Indies and has proven to be impressive in the opening slot.

Both Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both aged below 25, registered centuries in this match. The last instance of two players under 25 scoring a century for India in a Test match was back in 1996 against England in Nottingham, when Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly achieved the feat in the same Test.
