Just four days after revealing that he misplaced his Baggy Green (Test cap) during his journey from Melbourne to Sydney, Australian opener David Warner has successfully retrieved it.
Before the start of Day 3 in the ongoing Sydney Test between Australia and Pakistan, Warner shared a video. According to ESPNcricinfo, Warner’s backpack, housing both his caps, including the one from his debut Test in 2011, was discovered at the team hotel in Sydney. The circumstances leading to its return remain uncertain.
In a video released on Friday morning, David Warner expressed gratitude for the recovery of his Baggy Green. He can be seen holding the cap and extending thanks to all those involved in retrieving it.
“Hi everyone, I am very pleased and relieved to let you all know that my baggy greens have been found.
“Any cricketer knows how special that cap is and I’ll cherish this for the rest of my life. I’m very grateful to all those involved in locating it,” Warner said in a video he posted on his Instagram.
“It’s a load off my shoulders going into the last couple of days so I really appreciate it. Thanks to all involved and I am extremely grateful to Qantas, the freight company, our hotels and team management,” he further added.
A representative from Cricket Australia mentioned that Warner’s backpack, which contained his Baggy Green, was discovered at their team hotel. However, the details of how it made its way from Melbourne to Sydney remain unclear.
According to a statement by Cricket Australia, “The bag in which they were packed was found at the team hotel (in Sydney) with all the contents inside.”
“The movements of the missing bag are unknown despite extensive searches and the review of CCTV footage at multiple locations and the efforts of numerous parties since Tuesday,” CA added.
Earlier, Warner took to social media with a heartfelt request, urging for the safe return of his baggy greens. The backpack containing this treasured possession vanished while in transit from Melbourne to Sydney earlier this week.
