Mitchell Marsh found himself in hot water after a picture of him stirred controversy. The Australian captain, Pat Cummins, shared a photo on his Instagram during the jubilant celebration of their 6th World Cup victory. Team India fast bowler Mohammed Shami didn’t hesitate to share his opinion about Mitchell Marsh’s gesture.

Cummins shared a post featuring Marsh, who was spotted placing both feet firmly on top of the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy. This move drew criticism from several fans who believed Marsh had shown disrespect to the iconic trophy.

While some defended Mitchell Marsh, pointing to cultural differences between South Asian fans and others, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami expressed his disapproval of the incident. When questioned about it, Shami stated that he didn’t appreciate the gesture, emphasizing that the trophy should be lifted over one’s head, not under their feet. Shami had a remarkable World Cup campaign, contributing significantly to India’s success in the tournament.

Mohammed Shami slammed Mitchell Marsh and said that he was hurt. Shami said, “I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fight, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on  that trophy did not make me happy.”

Mohammed Shami disclosed that he never considers checking the pitch conditions before a game kicks off. In fact, he shared that he never takes a glance at the pitch before sending down his initial delivery in a match.

He added, “Generally, bowlers check the pitch after arriving at the ground. I never go close to the wicket because you will know how it behaves only when you bowl on it. Then why take the pressure? It’s best to keep it simple, keep yourself relaxed.”

In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Mohammed Shami emerged as the highest wicket-taker, securing an impressive total of 24 wickets across seven games. Throughout the tournament, Shami achieved three five-wicket hauls, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills. A remarkable highlight was his outstanding performance against New Zealand, where he claimed seven wickets, making him the first Indian bowler to achieve such a feat in a One Day International (ODI). Shami’s pivotal role in the team became apparent when he was brought into the playing XI as a replacement. World Cup 2023 was overall great for this Indian fast bowler but it was the misfortune that he didn’t taste the success of World Cup glory.
