Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, highlighted their commitment to assisting opener Shubman Gill in his rehabilitation from an illness before their debut match against Australia in the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium this Sunday. He made it obvious that they have not ruled out the potential of Gill participating in this highly-anticipated battle.

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has provided an update on the health of star opener Shubman Gill, who is currently grappling with a bout of dengue fever. Gill’s recent health setback has sparked concerns about his availability for India’s upcoming match against Australia in Chennai, set for Sunday, October 8.

Gill, who has been in outstanding form in 2023, especially in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs), where he has scored an impressive 1230 runs with an astonishing five centuries, plays a pivotal role in the Indian batting lineup. The possibility of his absence is causing some apprehension, creating an air of uncertainty around the Indian team. Nevertheless, Rohit Sharma stressed the importance of Gill’s well-being over rushing him back onto the field.

“Gill is not feeling well, giving him every chance to see how he feels. Not ruled out yet. Shubman Gill is sick, I feel for him. I want him to be well. As a human being first, not as captain. He is a young boy, has fit body and he will recover,“ Rohit said.

As cricket enthusiasts anxiously await an update on Gill’s fitness, the Indian captain has shared an encouraging message about the team’s spirit. Within the Indian squad, there’s an electrifying sense of anticipation and resolve as they aim to break their World Cup dry spell. The skipper emphasized,

“Mood in the camp is very good. As it is going to be before start of every tournament. Quite confident skill wise. Looking forward to the game,” said Rohit.

If Gill is unavailable for Sunday’s match against Australia, Ishan Kishan becomes a viable choice to team up with Captain Rohit Sharma as the opening batter. Kishan demonstrated his prowess by scoring three consecutive half-centuries as an opener during the ODI series against the West Indies in July.

India has set its sights on securing a third Men’s ODI World Cup championship, aiming to replicate their previous triumphs in 1983 and 2011. In the 13th edition of this prestigious tournament, India takes on the role of the exclusive host, having previously co-hosted the event in 1987, 1996, and 2011.
