Cricket aficionados across the globe have all had their share of daydreaming about their ultimate cricket lineup, comprising some of the all-time greats of the sport. With the 2023 ODI World Cup on the horizon, former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has also joined them.

At the age of 44, Sehwag was recently asked to name the first five players he would select for his fantasy ODI XI. After a moment of reflection, Sehwag disclosed his choices, and it comes as no surprise that the star duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli featured heavily in his list.

Over the past few weeks, Virender Sehwag has been actively working alongside the ICC, sharing his valuable insights and opinions in preparation for the upcoming World Cup in 2023. The tournament is scheduled to commence on October 5, with the final set to take place in Ahmedabad on November 19. As for the hosts, Rohit Sharma’s Team India, they enter the competition as strong contenders, carrying the weight of favoritism to secure the coveted trophy.

In a conversation with the ICC, Virender Sehwag selected five players from the World Cup 2023 squads that he believes would earn a spot in his ideal ODI XI.  With no surprises, he picked three Indian players – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah – along with Australia’s David Warner and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips.

“They are all talented players and perform well in ODI cricket and they can win the games on their own shoulders. Whenever they click, their team will win,” Sehwag said about his choices.

The ICC added: “Sehwag is looking forward to seeing the quintet in action during the World Cup this year and believes each player is capable of proving a match-winner on their given day.”

India will kick off their World Cup 2023 campaign on October 8 against Australia in Chennai.
