Team India’s star batter, Suryakumar is very likely to lead India Team for the Ireland Tour. He will be captaining the Indian side for the three T20I matches series against Ireland that starts next month.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya was supposed to lead the team in Rohit Sharma’s absence. But due to the hectic schedule of the West Indies series and keeping major tournaments which are on the line, Hardik has been given a rest. He will be preparing for the Asia Cup which is scheduled for August 31 right after the Ireland tour. This makes sense for the workload management for the batters especially those who will be taking part in the Asia Cup.

However, the all-rounder is most likely to receive rest too ahead of the Asia Cup. Keeping in mind that, this year’s upcoming ODI World Cup is set to be held in India entirely for the first time. Hardik has done a tremendous job in the white ball format in the absence of Rohit Sharma. He is yet to lose a series as a captain, in the Internationational Cricket.

Hardik has dealt with a lot of back issues in the past couple of years, so the management wouldn’t like to put too much pressure on him in a year with this tight schedule

As per the reports, Suryakumar Yadav who played the role of vice-captain during the last Ireland tour in 2022 will have his first opportunity to lead the Indian team. He has previously captained Mumbai Indians and his List A team as well.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav is the number 1 ranked T20I batsman in the world. He is ideally perfect to lead the team, with so much experience he can lead the Team full of youngsters. Currently, he is part of the Indian squad for the West Indies tour where they will be playing 3 ODI and 5 T20Is.

Bumrah is likely to make his comeback and Rinku Singh might debut

From the latest updates from the BCCI, “Bumrah is going full throttle in the nets. He is very likely to make a comeback to the team for this Ireland tour. He is bowling full-time in the nets and is on the verge of completing his rehab program. Bumrah is supposed to play some practice matches in the coming days,” a BCCI source said.

On the other hand, Rinku Singh might earn his debut call in the series against Ireland. He is part of India’s squad that will travel for the upcoming Asian games and ahead of that, the cricketer may play a couple of games in the United Kingdom.

A lot of young players are on the list for the BCCI where they will be tracking their performances. BCCI is showing their faith in youngsters who can be a part of this Team and will be participating in the coming T20I World Cup 2024. So, their performance will matter a lot from the selection point of view.

Sri Lanka secured a 32-run win against India in the second ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium, gaining a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. In a disappointing turn of events, the Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, faced their first loss of the Sri Lanka series on Sunday. The hosts secured a comfortable 32-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After the match, Rohit Sharma didn't hold back in his critique, acknowledging that his team failed to play up to standard during the encounter. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, setting India a target of 241 runs. The Men in Blue got off to a promising start, but their chase unraveled significantly, largely due to an outstanding bowling display by Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Vandersay's career-best figures of 6/33 played a pivotal role in dismantling India's batting lineup. Rohit Sharma's brisk 64 off 44 balls initially put India in a strong position. However, his dismissal, attempting a reverse sweep that was brilliantly caught by Pathum Nissanka off Vandersay's bowling, signaled the beginning of India's downfall. When asked about his shot selection during the post-match presentation, the 37-year-old defended his aggressive approach. Speaking to the presenters after the match, Rohit said, “We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game. We do understand the nature of this surface and the nature of how the game is going to go as well. It gets really, really tough in the middle overs. So you have to try and capitalize in the powerplay and get as many runs as possible. That's what both openers were trying to do. But we were just not good enough today.” “The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that, there is bound to be risk taking, and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero, you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent,” the Indian skipper further added. In challenging spin-friendly conditions in Colombo on Sunday, India faced a target of 241 runs. Despite valiant efforts from captain Rohit Sharma and middle-order batsman Axar, the rest of the Indian lineup struggled. As a result, the team fell short, losing the match by 32 runs.
